Sailing and personal resilience contributors

Stephen and Kerry Neander are jointly credited with Sailing Around the World in Beyond Limitations. Their chapter describes leaving Australia, buying the yacht Thankfulness in Croatia and learning to live aboard while developing sailing skills.

Neither had grown up with the expectation of sailing around the world. They describe training, practice and the distance between enough knowledge to begin and the competence needed for unfamiliar conditions. A sudden change in weather becomes an important event in their account.

The journey also grew from major changes in their personal lives. Stephen and Kerry connect the decision to begin again with Christian faith, restoration and the wish to encourage people they met along the way.

Their contribution is a shared story of learning and adaptation. It preserves their joint attribution and does not assign one person's experiences to the other. The chapter provides the background to Sailing With Thankfulness, with the voyage presented as personal experience rather than instruction for undertaking a similar passage.
