Ready, Aim, Succeed! Is the Goal Worth What It Will Cost?

INSIDE THE BOOK / PAT MESITI & CONTRIBUTORS

The dream home was in the brochure. The income was substantial. The debt was already there.

Kai Leong describes a banking customer earning $400,000 with more than $200,000 in credit-card debt. After reviewing her position, he could not offer the borrowing amount she wanted. A clear goal did not erase the commitments already attached to her money.

Ready, Aim, Succeed! brings Pat Mesiti and his students to the decision before the chase. Their chapters connect a worthwhile ambition with the skills, relationships and resources it requires. Choosing the target is only the beginning of aiming well.

Decide what you are willing to give

Glen Henwood sets out three decisions in "The Three Most Important Decisions You Will Make in Your Lifetime": decide what you want, what price it requires and whether you are willing to pay that price. Recognizing the demand and accepting it are separate decisions. A role involving travel can be attractive while the absences are wrong for your family.

Mea Bishop brings that question into personal boundaries in "Overcome Self-Sabotage, Listen To Your Heart, Find Happiness & Fulfilment". Trying to please everyone had left her unhappy and afraid of confrontation. Writing a letter and talking with family helped her communicate what she wanted and what she would participate in.

Genevieve Arthy gives the space she protects a meaningful use in "Gratitude, Faith & Miracles". After her son Matty's death, she returned to painting and writing, expressing grief and experiences she understood through Christian faith. A worthwhile goal can be as personal as making room for creative work.

These chapters establish the first stage: choose something that belongs in your life, then be honest about what it asks you to surrender.

Become capable of the next step

Brendan Henry began surfing at 36, orienteering at 38 and martial arts at 43. In "Take Action, Think Smarter & Learn New Skills To Become Your Best Self", those experiences make becoming a beginner a normal part of an adult life. Map-reading gave him a familiar skill to bring into orienteering; practice took him further in each new activity.

David Cavanagh raises a different possibility in "Ready, Aim, Take Massive Action". You may already have ability but scatter it across too many pursuits. His account of receiving difficult feedback from Adam Hudson and Peter Sun asks what happens when skill needs a clearer assignment.

Read Brendan's chapter to examine what you still need to learn. Read David's to examine where your existing ability is going. The answers lead to different next steps, and either can save you from buying another course you will not use.

Include the costs other people carry

Kai Leong's "Believe in Your Financial Success to Achieve Economic Wealth" makes financial obligations visible before a purchase. His dream-home example shows why an attractive income figure does not explain the whole household position. The practical lesson is to understand the commitments before adding another one.

Zdenka Juric examines a cost that does not appear on a loan application in "Survive & Thrive In Your Long Distance Relationship". Living on different continents from her husband meant planning calls across time differences, funding visits and deliberately sharing everyday experiences.

Both chapters turn a distant goal into continuing responsibilities. The decision is not finished when someone says yes. Bills keep arriving; relationships keep needing attention. A plan deserves to include those demands before everyone is expected to absorb them.

Test whether the picture works in real life

Margo Eastwood offers a useful image in "Home Renovation Imagination, Passion & Action": furniture can look exactly right and still block the way through a room. Design has to serve the people using the space.

Her family's housing story also includes help through Habitat for Humanity during her husband John Eastwood's illness. They contributed volunteer equity hours and received support while staying in the community where their children attended school. The aim included continuity and belonging alongside the house itself.

Paul McKerracher explores incomplete information through historical fiction in "The War Above Falkirk". His characters pursue objectives with knowledge that is limited or deliberately manipulated. The contribution invites reflection through a story; its events should not be treated as verified history.

Margo gives you a practical test. Before committing, investigate how the goal would work on an ordinary day. Measure the room. Ask the question. Examine the assumption carrying most of the plan.

Put the goal inside a larger vision

Pat Mesiti connects the collection in "Ready, Aim, Reinvent Yourself!". A vision of your future helps you decide which individual targets belong in it. His discussion of reinvention includes time for learning, ongoing responsibilities and help from other people.

The target is only the beginning of the story. Glen asks what you are willing to give. Brendan shows the learning a fresh ambition requires. Kai brings financial obligations into view, while Zdenka and Margo make you consider the people who will live with the result. Together, these chapters ask a better question of success: once you reach it, will it be a life you want?

Ready, Aim, Succeed! gives that question the space it deserves. Pat and his students examine ambition through money, relationships, learning, loss and service. Reading the complete collection lets you test a goal against more than your excitement on the day you set it. You can consider its demands, its purpose and its place in a larger future. Pat's vision draws those decisions together, giving the individual targets a reason to belong in the same life.
